Mexico Sierra Roja

Strawberry | Cacao Nibs | Cane Sugar

Description

Mexico Altura Veracruz Natural HG is sourced from partner producers throughout the Veracruz growing region of Mexico, an area known for its lush mountain landscapes, fertile soils, and long-standing coffee traditions. Produced in collaboration with APG Coffee, this lot represents a newer generation of Mexican specialty coffee focused on quality-driven processing, traceability, and farmer support. Grown between 900–1,200 meters above sea level in clay-rich mineral soils, the coffee benefits from warm tropical conditions that help develop deep fruit sweetness and a rounded body.

This lot undergoes a full natural process, allowing the coffee cherries to dry intact around the seed and intensify the fruit-forward characteristics of the cup. After harvest, cherries are carefully sorted and floated to remove underripe or damaged fruit before being placed on raised beds for drying. Over the course of 15–20 days, the cherries slowly dry under controlled conditions, concentrating sugars and producing the syrupy texture and layered sweetness natural coffees are known for.

APG Coffee works closely with its network of producers throughout Veracruz, providing technical assistance and improving processing infrastructure to help elevate coffee quality across the region. The company’s wet and dry milling operations are designed around lot separation and careful quality control, ensuring each coffee maintains consistency and traceability from harvest through export. Their growing reputation for specialty preparation has helped bring renewed attention to coffees from Veracruz on the international market.

In the cup, Mexico Altura Veracruz Natural HG offers vibrant notes of strawberry and dark cherry balanced by rich cacao nib depth and subtle pistachio-like nuttiness. The body is syrupy and smooth, while the acidity remains soft and juicy, creating a cup that feels both expressive and approachable. This coffee highlights the evolving potential of Mexican specialty coffee — fruit-forward, carefully processed, and full of character.
