Zambia Kateshi Estate
Princess Grape | Honey Suckle | Dark Chocolate
Description
Kateshi Coffee Estate holds a pioneering place in Zambia’s coffee history. Established in 1972 near the village of Kateshi, it was one of the country’s first coffee estates and quickly became a vital hub for northern Zambia’s coffee production, thanks to its central wet mill. Today, Kateshi remains a standout name in the industry—its natural and honey coffees recently took 1st and 2nd place in Zambia’s Taste of Harvest competition.
But Kateshi’s impact extends far beyond coffee. Community lies at the core of its mission. Operated by Olam, the estate provides clean drinking water to over 20,000 people and supports three schools serving more than 1,500 students with access to primary and secondary education. On-site, a fully equipped health clinic—the only one within a 30-kilometer radius—offers free basic care, a pharmacy, and a delivery room, serving more than 4,000 people and averaging 95 patients daily.
Kateshi is also breaking new ground in social progress, proudly challenging gender norms by hiring women to operate tractors, bulldozers, and road graders—roles historically held by men. It's the first and only estate in Zambia to do so.
